Retail bag or bulk: matching packaging to your market

The same charcoal sells very differently in a supermarket aisle and a restaurant back door. Packaging is where that difference is made.

Retail bag or bulk: matching packaging to your market

Retail is a shelf decision

A 5 kg or 10 kg retail bag has to survive handling, carry clear product information and a barcode, and look credible next to competitors. Print quality and a strong carry handle do more for sell-through than an extra kilogram of product.

Food service is a handling decision

Restaurant and hotel buyers care about how the bag behaves in a cramped store room and on a wet floor. Larger formats reduce handling frequency, and moisture resistance protects product that may sit for weeks before use.

Private label sits between the two

Manufacturing under a customer brand means artwork, multilingual labelling and destination compliance text all become part of the specification. Send artwork early, because print method and minimum run size shape the quotation.

Packaging is not the wrapper around the product. For your buyer, it is part of the product.

WHAT TO TAKE AWAY

Match bag size to how the end customer stores and carries it.

Budget label space for barcode, lot number and country of origin.

Share private-label artwork before asking for a final price.
